About our Horticulturist Services in Sydney

Helen Young  Horticulturist is based in Willoughby on Sydney’s leafy North Shore, and has been established since 1993.  Her aim is to create beautiful and functional gardens that suit the needs of her clients.  She is a member of the Australian Institute of Horticulture and won the Plantscape Design Award 2008 in the 2008 AILDM Landscape Design Awards.

Helen offers garden consultations and access to a range of soft landscaping services through preferred contractors, as well as supplying premium quality plants at competitive prices. You might have just purchased a home and need help with what to do with the garden, or you might be selling and want assistance with presenting the garden at its best. Or you might want a garden refresh, or be looking to make it lower maintenance.

Helen takes prides in the quality of service and work. Nearly all of her work comes from word-of-mouth recommendations and repeat business. You can expect calls to be returned, appointments to be kept on time and promises to be kept. References are available on request. Helen is happy to be involved in small jobs as well as large projects. Her experience in balconies, terraces, courtyards and semis is based on her belief that the smaller space, the better it has to look. 


About Helen Young

Apart from running the business, Helen writes two weekly columns in The Weekend Australian Magazine, having written for the newspaper for more than 20 years.  She was one of the regular garden experts on ABC Sydney radio's Saturday morning gardening program for more than 20 years, and also writes for Gardening Australia magazine.

She co-authored a book with Jennifer Stackhouse on form and foliage plants for Murdoch Books in 2004. Her first solo book, Balcony: Gardening in Small Spaces (Lothian Books) was published in 2005 and has since sold out.

Helen first hosted a garden tour to Spain and Portugal for the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney in 2002. Since then she has led more than 20 garden tours to places such as France, England, Italy, Switzerland, Croatia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Western Australia and Tasmania.
